The Kamloops Art Gallery is delighted to organize for exhibition and national tour the courrent work of Vancouver-based artist Jin-me Yoon. By externalizing and examining feelings of anxiety and vulnerability, which have escalated since 9/11, Jin-me Yoon moves her work to an exciting new plateau. Still interested in performance-based work and exploring issues of cultural identity and place, Yoon has shifted her to capture and portray the seemingly settled and unsettled. Shot in Kamloops, yet purposely vague as to site, "Unbidden unfolds", writes Susette Min, "as a story of the production of a psychic space, anchored in the real solid landscape of Canada". This publication examines Unbidden with essays by Susan Edelstein and Susette Min, who eloquently addres Yoon's manipulated landscape in terms of the work itself and its relationship to contemporary cultural theories and current socio-political contexts. Unbidden precariously balances multiple levels of our personal comfort, seeking a common place of empathy from which we can collectively move forward as engaged individuals to work against indifference and ignorance ER -
